We believe God’s Word offers TRUTH. It is difficult to embrace truth when we are bombarded with lies in our minds. The lies are often so persistent that we get weary and stop fighting against them or begin to believe them.

In stressful situations, it’s tempting to listen to the lies even more and unlikely that we will remember what God says about us….which means we can’t wait until the stress starts! Instead, we need to “practice truth” on a regular basis, so that when stress comes, we will be ready. This can be done through a “Truth Statement”- 3-4 lines that are formed based on an understanding of a word in God’s Word which refutes lies and reflects God’s truth. Repeat the Truth Statement as often as possible so it will be cemented before stress hits!

Today’s Word

CREATE: The Hebrew word “bara”.

KEEP IT REAL- WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?

Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Isaiah 43:1-2 (NIV)
But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Isaiah 65:17 (NIV)
“See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Psalm 51:10 (NIV)
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

KEEP IT SIMPLE- WHAT DOES THE WORD MEAN?

From these Scriptures, we find the word CREATE (“Bara”) means:

  1. Out of nothing
God creates what seems unthinkable and impossible.
    Example: the world and humans.

  2. A people
God creates a community for us to belong.
    Example: a spiritual family.

  3. Future place
    God creates something to come.
    Example: heaven.

  4. Renewal
    God creates a fresh start.
    Example: A new perspective.

KEEP IT MOVING- WHAT DO I DO WITH THE WORD?

Here is a truth statement to repeat over the next week based on the word “create”. Put it on your phone, write it down,- whatever you need to do to remember it:

God values me and can do the impossible in my life.

He has invited me into his family, so I don’t have to do life alone.

What I’m going through right now won’t last forever.

Today can look different.
